CONSERVATION

When we were in Ardnamurchan we tried to conserve the wild places by following the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. When we went for our Wild Camp we wanted to be sure that we “left no trace”, that after we had been camping you could not see where we had been and nothing had been harmed. Here are some of the ways that we did it:

We took everything we needed with us and we brought everything back. We did not leave any litter at all.

We stayed in one place for only one night so that our tent did not damage the ground.

We did not do poos because that would pollute the environment and we could all hang on for one night!!!!!!

We had a small camping stove with us so if we wanted hot drinks we did not have to start a fire.

We looked very hard to find a good place to put our tent. It was flat and the ground was hard so that our tent would not damage it. We did not need to move anything to make space for our tent.

We walked a long way from where our car was and found a place that was really wild so that other people could not see us and copy our campsite. If too many people use the same wild camp it could wreck it and it would not be so wild anymore.

Our tent was just the right size for us and every thing we needed. It was green so it didn’t stand out.

We didn’t shout so we didn’t make noise pollution and we could hear the wild creatures, the wind and the sea.

In Scotland we are very lucky to have Access Laws that give us lots of freedom to enjoy the outdoors. But we need to use our freedom responsibly and we can do that by following the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.

When we were thinking about how we could conserve the wild places we were visiting we found lots of useful information on the Internet
